The Eight Congress

During the Versailles Congress in 1986, it was determined that the World Union Congresses would rotate between continents. That is why they were held successively in Europe, Australia, Asia, Africa and now South America; the next one will be in North America in 2017.

On the Seventh Congress, and with support from the Latin American Confederation, it was approved that the Eight Congress be held by the Colombian ASIA Federation and ASIA Ignaciana in Medellin on August 2013, at Saint Ignatius of Loyola School.

Congress theme: “Jesuit education and Social Responsibility: How can we best serve?”

The Congress motto “Jesuit education and Social Responsibility: How can we best serve?” combines our Jesuit education with Social Responsibility. The motto raises the question of what must we do to help our society. As alumni we must follow Saint Ignatius' teachings: “In all, love and serve”.

Alumni from Society of Jesus educational institutions undoubtedly exert great leadership throughout the world, thanks to the quality education they received, with a strong incline towards social commitment with the purpose of being more to serve better.

Alumni leadership has more relevance if it is accomplished through Social Responsibility, going beyond philanthropy and must serve as the basis for sustainable development. This way, economic growth and productivity are linked to quality of life and the validity of profitable institutions, with environmental awareness and committed to their commuinities social development.

On the Eight World Congress of Jesuit Alumni pavilions will be set up so that the delegations from different countries can exhibit through pictures, video or other material, the social works that they carry out.
During the Eight World Congress, all lectures will have simultaneous translation in English, French and Spanish.

We invite all ASIA from the World to prepare for this gathering in Medellín, Colombia to present their work, so that we can strenghten our global jesuit community.

We're waiting for you!

ASIA Ignaciana

For the past 56 years, ASIA Ignaciana has been working to give back to society, through different projects, the education and formation received from the Jesuit Community at the Saint Ignatius Loyola School.
The Jesuit Alumni Association of Medellin, ASIA Ignaciana, was founded in 1977, but Saint Ignatius alumni have been working with social causes for the most needed since 1956.

ASIA Ignaciana was initially headed by Father Antonio Bernal Londoño S.J., who gave it a great boost. His work was carried on by Father Hernan Mejia S.J., who in turn was succeeded by the current chaplain, Father Hector Lopez S.J.

ASIA is currently working on two fronts: Services to alumni, and the projection of its members through social works, leading a project that supports the education and integral formation of kids, teens and adults of scarce resources in some sectors of northern Medellin.

Thus, the Alumni Association of the Colegio San Ignacio is the body responsible for organizing the VIII World Congress of Jesuit Alumni supported ASIA Colombia Federation and the Office of Relations graduate of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana-back.
